Great Blizzard of 1947
A record snowfall surprises New York dropping 26.4 inches of snow and
paralyzing the City. The United States Weather Bureau forecasted only occasional
snow.
The storm claimed 77 lives and still ranks as the biggest blizzard in the City's
history.
However, the task of walking the family dog overcame all obstacles
as these two girls take their pet for a stroll near the Washington Square
Arch
